Went back down to Buena Vista to try and get a better shot of that 52 Chevy, and while I was takin pics a car pulled up, stopped, a guy got out and I really thought 'uh-oh'. Was the owner, Joe Autry, and a pretty good old boy. He was tickled every time folks pulled over to admire his truck. He was going to re-paint it, and while sanding it down noticed it had been a few different colors. His wife liked the look as she thought it told a story, so he just shot it with clear coat. He had this odd little piece of ground across the road from his house that he really didn't know what to do with, and it was becomin the local party place and a nuisance, so he parked his rig there, put up a rail fence and posted it, and that put the quietus on that nonsense. Didn't really get a better pic today, but I can come back anytime. Went on down through BV and out to Cottonwood Lake. Spotted this nice buck sittin in somebody's backyard in BV. Nice day, but a little snow on the way tomorrow.

That Chevy would look better sitting in front of my house! I would love to have it. It reminds me of my Grandpa's old one. That is one nice looking deer and I bet you could blindfold a photographer, spin him in a circle and have him take a pic in whichever direction he stops and it would be a beautiful picture! You guys are spoiled for scenery:icon_thumright:

Is kinda hard to take a bad pic up here, OD, but believe me it can be done. That truck still runs, too. He loads up the grandkids every so often and drives them into town to the hamburger place. Those deer are all over town in BV, right in the residential areas. My politically uncorrect thought is always 'Man, if I lived here I could go deer huntin right from my bedroom window'.

Those deer weren't running around in BV like they do today when I lived there. Sure you'd see them here and there 30 years ago, but now they're just about found in ever street and alleyway in town. Last I came through BV there was a buck standing on the intersection of main and hwy 24 at night without any concern of the traffic going on around him.

If that truck was mine, it would be my around town, errand doing auto:icon_thumright: I really like it.

Great pics, and a REALLY nice truck! Speaking of Autrys...I was down in New Mexico several years ago visiting my brother. We went coyote-calling one day, and got lost. We ended up at an old ranch...really old....looked like something out of a western movie. There was a weatherbeaten sign nearby that said "Autry Ranch". We turned around and were wandering around, trying to find our way back when we pulled up to a gate. Just as I got out to open the gate, an old pickup pulled up to the other side. I figured we were going to chewed out, but I told the old guy we were lost. He saw my Idaho plates and said "If you think you're in Idaho, you're definitely lost". He gave us directions, and we visited for a spell. As we were leaving, my brother, the wit in the family, asked the guy if he was related to Gene Autry. The old guy said "yup, we shared a great grandfather". I was just about floored. The guy had a strong resemblance to your truck owner.

My great grandma was related to him. My grandma brother is Al Autry the old pitcher for the Braves and I've personally met her cousin who played Bubba on the show In The Heat Of The Night

Well, when I asked the guy his last name he said 'Autry, just like Gene'. I told him I knew who that was but didn't pursue it any further. And he had recently been down to Oklahoma for some events at the Lazy E Arena at Guthrie. The only thing that perturbed me was when I told him I was from Summit County, he said my accent didn't sound like Colorado. Sore spot for me, as I believe I sound pretty much like one of them guys on the 6 o'clock news. Pretty much anyway.
