Went down to Park County and looked over the old North London Mill today. Built in 1874 and actually in operation til about 1940, it processed ore for the London Mine, a big gold and silver producer in the area. An overhead tramway ran from the mill straight up the mountain about 3000ft. to the mine to transport ore down. Gold was the big thing, but supposedly the mill processed about 82 million dollars of silver in a ten year period in the late 1800's. You'd think with all that coming through they'd have got careless and there might be a stray sample or two lying around but I didn't spot any. Could be a forgotten high grader's stash in the area though. Nice day with a lot of sun but still only 31 degrees at 11a.m. Very quiet, but I bet this was a noisy place back in its time.

I've been to that mill a few times. That pass is incredible. I had a friend who's detector went off on a a high grade gold ore rock on one of the mines up past tree line. I've wanted to get up there again. Love seeing the pictures. Lets hope it never collapses.

The London was being mined for a short time in 1983. They hired some of the fellas who were laid off in the first wave of Climax worker's, but they shut it down in less then a year of operation I believe. I use to pick high grade up in the Leadville district. There was an assayer in Alma I'd take samples to. I found some with 8 oz per ton of silver and .08 oz gold. with a lot of lead in the samples. I know where it still is.
