With the talk about chickens, my 3 lovely ladies enjoy something warm in the winter. A favorite is a fresh warm, sausage, egg and cheese biscuit from the store down the street.

How many do you have now? 7?

Ya I have 7, I had 8 but last winter a stray cay took out my best layer, that hen would lay double yorkers almost every second day . She was the largest of them all, and I think she was defending the rest of the flock when that damn cat attacked them, I was like a few mins late getting out there, the cat had chewed through her throat and she bleed out. Anyways , the cat isn't around anymore...

The mink that lives around our pond took out all three of our neighbors.

Ya minks are bad for chickens, dont have many around here, but, there are weasels, raccoons, skunks, Owls ,foxes , mostly those don't hunt through the day, and my coop is tight, they cant get in at night.

Only thing this time of the year, the danger is things like hungry stray cats and some times the foxes can hunt through the day if they are hungry enough, but they stay away from human areas mostly in the day time.

What happens when you forget to shut the chicken coup hatch door over night.

You go out in the morning and see feathers all over the place... :sadsmiley:

Only lost one, could have lost them all.

My bad...

Probably a raccoon, if it was a fox they would be all gone.
