While I was in Colorado we visited one of the neighbors, who had bird feeders on his second story deck. I won't go into all the rebuilding etc. it took to keep the bears out of the bird seed, I'll just say his deck is open but pretty much bear and coon proof.
The first is a wood pecker at the feeder, but the most interesting to me, is the second picture. Look at it's beak closely. It's a Cross Beak, and instead of crushing the sunflower seed to get inside, it rolls to seed back and forth in it's beak, and cuts it open. This bird was a first for me, I didn't even know they existed.
