I was in Las Vegas this last week. I stayed at The Venetain and as I walked through these spectacular hallways of painted ceilings and marble columns, I'd knock on everything and find it's mostly molded concrete and fiberglass. This town 40 years ago was nothing but bargains, but not anymore. Nothing is cheap in this town. It's all mind-boggling how this desolate desert has morphed into what it is today.

I've never been there. Thanks for sharing your site seeing photos. That hallway looks spectacular! Evil Knievel was my hero when I was a kid.

Yup, Grant, the old days are long gone. I can't stand the place now. I remember, when in the Air Force at San Bernardino, my buddy calling me after a swing shift..."hey Jim, let's go to Vegas!". And away we'd go. I played enough blackjack in those days, the dealers at the 4 Queens would say "Hi Jim, great to see you" when I walked in. Wonder how much you'd have to spend to get that greeting today? Way more than I spent then, for sure.

Hi Tamrock, I see where you are coming from the 4.95 prime rib dinners are gone as is alot of the catering to middle aged and older patrons. When I go back to Sin City I rent a car and get away from the young and stupid on the strip. The whole flavor has changed to ripping the youngsters off with poor games and booze coupled with naked women and oh well. They are casinos off strip that are nice and more relaxed atmoshere along with better rules and odds. Vegas has changed like you said and they struggle to stay afloat because of it.

It certainly has changed from my first trip in 1977, If you like old Vegas prices make a trip to Laughlin, Nv, sits on the Colorado river and reminds me some what of old Vegas in prices and buffets.

The bike was real, but Evil was fake. I also saw fake Louis Armstrong. Once a cabbie I cop'd a ride with there was telling me everything in Vegas is fake.

I've been there a few times. It's been awhile, but definitely a throwback to what it once was once in LV. I'd say the casinos in Vegas is about now half of the revenue anymore. The other half is high style spending and luxury. Definitely a world destination there's days.
