Went to a quiet, peaceful place that I like, it is an old
crossing on the river, we call them (shoals), shallow places
where crossing is easiest.
Early Americans used them, as places to cross, spear
or net fish, clean their game, drinking, & bathing .
Later, the settlers used the same places to ford the
rivers with their horses & wagons.
Pics are river & shoal, road, flint chips & arrowhead,
mussels, like they ate.
I learned to (dog paddle) at an old shoal, when I was
a youngster.

That's a rather large fresh water mussel

Actually, it is about the average for this type,
I have found some about twice as large, but they are not too
common. (called three ridge, has three distinct ridges)..

Other types get (fatter) than these, such as the (Bluefer).

Thanks Burdie, I saw a herd of 'Longhorns'
the other day when I waded over to the other side, but
didn't have my camera.
