While looking for Terry Soloman's petroglyphs, I visited the Congress cemetery. I've been here years ago.

The sign says no taking of souvenirs.
DSC00206.JPG

But it appears some people leave them!
DSC00207.JPG

Some graves are well tended.
DSC00217.JPG

But most are just nameless plots, surrounded by rocks added by the locals.

July 13th, 1898. I looked that date up and learned it was the day the Spanish-Cuban-American War ended. ╦╦Ç

July 13th, 1898. I looked that date up and learned it was the day the Spanish-Cuban-American War ended. (It was NOT a Friday, it was Wednesday) I looked it up using a day-of-the-week calculator and got the response Your really not that old! ╦╦Ç

They say you can hear a mother weeping if you're out there on a moonless night.

Wish we knew the history of that family.
Can't imagine the depth of their sorrow.

The guy that clued me in said he was standing outside the gate, and could clearly hear a woman sobbing. He hasn't been back to the area since.:skullflag:

Added note, Terry. We took the pics at the same time of day but, clearly, different times of the year. Neat! ╦╦Ç

I don't think that's a 'G' in the baby's name, but a 'C'. I had the wife look at it, and she believes the baby was named 'Eloicia' a common name, and since she was a baby she was called 'Eloicita'. 'ita' is like a diminutive added to a name for kids. That last name is somethin else though. 'Volo' is the past tense of 'Volar--fly' So she flew to heaven, the sky, or you could say 'ellla se fue al cielo'. Good pics Terry C. Leave some flowers on Eloicita's grave from los abuelos, Roberto y Maria, if you can.

I have re-read the post above and realize I put flowers on the wrong grave. THAT will be corrected soon. Eloicita will get flowers within the week! TTC

Just saw all this TerryC, that was very cool. Maria says muchas gracias, we were both really touched by that. Fine you got the wrong one at first; we're abuelitos to all the ninos. I probably couldn't do much, but if I can ever return the favor let me know.
