This snake was run over less than a mile from the home.

It is about 26 inches long. Very long for a coral snake.

The yellow bands are very hard to see but appear to be on both sides of the red.

Red and yellow, dangerous fellow! Is it a coral snake or King? Anyone out there know? If a coral, it would be the Sonoran Coral snake. TTC

I'll guess it had a red nose and is a king snake. Coral's have a black nose.

Looks like toddbbq nailed it. I knew it wasn't a Coral Snake...but I sure thought it was a King Snake. Too bad it got ran over...It's a pretty snake.

I must say, Todd did the job! If a coral, the yellow is too small. The long nose fits the ID best. Now, back to the books to find if a long nose should be out here! Tnx all for the responses. Good work! TTC

Here's another link to him, with a map showing where he lives in AZ. Probably trying to find a mate.

Long-nosed Snake (Rhinocheilus lecontei) - Reptiles of Arizona
That's the guy! No doubt about it now. He was looking for a mate. I could tell by the excited look on his face... or was that look from seeing a tire coming on strong? I don't know. Although said to be nocturnal, Alice and I went by about 10am and he was not there on the road. He was when we returned about 2 pm. Nice responses, people. Tnx. TTC
