That looks to be a morel.
Very delicious.
Here are some characteristics of a true morel.



The stems and caps of morels are hollow, and the stem is attached at the base of the cap.

I never looked for them before, but had time here in Michigan and found half a dozen.
May try more since I only found trash metal detecting

Those were my sons and his friends. They put them down for size.

I know a lot of people that intentionally go to Michigan to hunt mushrooms. These were found all around here locally and quite a few on my own land. I’m not giving them permission to hunt my farm. Keeping it in the family. Mean aren’t I?

You are mean for posting the fried Morel picture. I can't find any down here in south Georgia. Last time I had any was when I visited my brother in Kentucky about 5 years ago!

Like a lot of things you can buy morels today online. They sell them fresh picked and flash frozen along with dried and vacuum packed. I've heard they grow in Colorado, but I believe it's pretty rare to find any.
