So, I haul the trash can out to the street, and coming back
into the shop I see this hairy-legged monster sitting right on top
of the hat I generally wear for yardwork..and it's right on my desk.

And yes, my first thought was ... "Oh Sweet Jebus!!!" fesfd.gif

I kill spiders every day...no problem..grab a paper towel, squish
'em and off to the trashcan they go.

Not this guy..I ain't gettin' anywhere near that thing!!!
Instead grabbed my flyswatter, and with three mighty
blows I sent him to spider eternity.

Need help with an ID..it measured over 3" as it sat there,
and if the front legs were extended it'd be over 4".. spider-0173.gif

Looks bad but I'd almost definitely maybe bet it's harmless.

Giant House Spider, Eratigena duellica. I just looked this up. They don't bite people, supposedly, and they're "fabulous to have around"! Naw. Sorry, flat spider. They look just like the smaller Hobo spider, a venomous, biting spider, that also lives in your area.

He'd be "fabulous to have around" OUTSIDE..when he enters my
domain, he/she/it is subject to execution upon sight. The intruder
in the images is now deader than Custer's horse.. behead.gif

Having three daughters grow up in my house I always knew what that load cry of DAAAAAAAD !!! was all about. Either a moth was flying around or a spider was crawling on the wall or some unwelcome bug needed to be 86'ed
