Neat shots. Looks like focus, depth of field was a bit off. That 5200 is a nice camera. You cold try the P mode, ASA to 400 or so, use a f8 or higher f stop to give a bit more depth of field. if spot focus doesn't work fast enough (still blurry), try manual focus on the plant and the depth of field for that F stop should get the bee in the focus. After you get that working then you can open up the f-stop to a lower number to make the depth of field smaller and get the bee sharp and the background blurrier. Have fun. I like the #4 shot!

I love Bumble Bees.

I for some reason seem to always attract these big boys and they like to land on me and hang out for a while. I'll even go out of my way to save a bee in distress no matter the possible negative outcome. Bumble Bees are badass though.

Maybe try a monopod instead of a tripod. It's faster to use and will help you steady the camera. Gary

I have a monopod and use it occasionally. My problem with it is getting the height adjusted quickly for different shots. I wonder if they make a waist or chest mount with a flexible shaft?

I agree with Mudflaps assessment of my pictures plus they were taken during the mid day hours which causes colors to be washed out. Best time to take pictures is just before sunrise to about an hour after and just before sunset to about an hour after. This one was also taken in the middle of the day but the bee is a little more in focus.

I think the shots are great. I too like #4 and I do not see where it has a focus problem even if I zoom all the way in. keep the pics coming.

Well yeah I think they're pretty cool. That fourth one in flight came out pretty good.
