Awesome shots. I'm not getting many storms so far this year.

Those are called shelf clouds. Really ominous looking end of the world type clouds. If you look close it appears to be a double rainbow. Nice shots! Gary

How do you capture the lightning?

Those are created from still shots I used from filming the storms. I would set up the camera and video record the storm in the hopes of getting some lightning action. As you can imagine, I would quite often record about a minutes worth of video and get nothing several times over. I just delete those and start again. Once I know I have some video coverage of lightning, I go back and look it over frame by frame and see how they turn out. Some show up nicely while others do not.

I have also captured some nice video/shots of lightning using my dash cam. The first two photos are in complete darkness. That's why they are a little blurry but they light up the sky in spectacular fashion. And the third shot was during my morning commute to work.

I am particularly pleased with the first photo. What are the chances of driving down a long stretch of road and have lightning strike right down the middle? 8-)

Did your dash cam automatically take the shots or did you set it to record and go frame by frame? I also have a dash cam but never thought about using it that way.

My dash cam takes video and then I go back and look frame by frame for a good shot.
