    Morning dog walk

All I got is me cellphone and if and when I get my other camera back up an going again, this will do. Walked the pups around the lake before it heads up again into the mid 90s and as you can see we're in the smoke and they say it'll get thicker when the stuff from California starts moving in with what we allready have near by. No doubt more fires are expected start also with this dry weather and hot breezes going on. Saw a very camouflaged little bunny and herd a noise behind me and turned around and saw this monster being the cause of it. My dog Ollie seems to sense you don't wanna get close to that thing, but if Bella was free to head after it, she'd be out a snout today. It was a good sized snapper that I'd say is an easy 36 inches from head to tail

At certain times of the year (now maybe?) I see snappers moving across roads. Sometimes I see them quite a ways from water. I think they must migrate around here and there. Gary

I lived around here for years, before I ever saw one, because the only river of any size is the south platte, which you in Illinois would call a crick and what we call a creek is what would be a slough in Iowa and Illinois, where I at time saw hugh snapping turtles. The first time I saw one I thought huh, I never knew they lived this far west of the Missouri river, but reading up on them I found this is about the furthest west east of the Rockies they can be found. Oddly there are spotted areas west of the Rockies all the way to California snappers are found, so that might suggest some were able migrate over the continental divide during their evolution, which fossils of this species have be found in deposits of the miocene period.

It is the biggest I've seen around here, but these guys can grow four times the size of this one.

That they are, but i do think they feel in their minds thats all a dog owner should do and aways go on walks, outside of having food handed out to them. Have you every wished you were born a dog? I do sometimes.
