    Yellow Fringed Orchid

I've had my eyes peeled for a wild orchid, ever since I learned they could be found in South Carolina. Quite a few varieties around, but this is my first. After around ten years of looking, I spotted these growing in a shallow, overgrown ditch today, by a secondary road. The total bloom is about 5 or 6 inches tall.

    Thanks for looking.

"And so the population was gradually led into the demoralising temptations of arcades, baths, and sumptuous banquets. The unsuspecting Britons spoke of such novelties as 'civilisation', when in fact they were only a feature of their enslavement." Tacitus, Roman Senator and Historian, written AD 98.

The Bald Eagle photo...he/she posed for me, gave me it's best American look. I felt privileged to get the shot.

No. I thought about it, but I've read that it's nearly impossible to replicate the conditions that these decided to grow in. I know people are into it, just not me. I do love wildflowers, just to observe, not collect.

Nice! A fringed orchid. They used to grow up here on the prairie until it was all converted to ag fields. Now they are extremely rare. I'd love to have some in my prairie plot. I've never seen one in the wild. Gary
