Dang you were close by. There is a pony express station right beside that place to the north and a friends shop on the south. If I ever buy a MD that’s a spot I want to try.

I was wondering if you searched any of those long gone settlements in your area. I read a book on the building of the Transcontinental Railroad recently and in the book it told a bit of Railroad construction camp close to Julesburg which was one of the most notorious place ruled by old west justice, due to shooting, drunkenness and prostitution. It was know as a Hell on wheels town.

Please read Indian war of 1864. My favorite book and I mention it every chance I get. It’s free on line from the Kansas collection, skip to chapter 23.
If you get off I76 a J-burg and go west along the frontage road, past rest area info place and follow along to Sedgwick everything is marked along that road.

Glad you made it back safely. I understand that there was more than a foot of snow there in Des Moines.

It was deep and a bit of a mess, but Des Moines had
a pretty good snow removal equipment and crews. I heard them all night long when I got there. That storm was quite large and slow moving.
