I've been lurking on this site forever and finally had to sign up.
I see some familiar names and faces on here that post on other detecting forums I frequent too so thought I would give it a go myself ;D
This guy goes by the name of Ike, when I'm not detecting or working on motorcycles ... he gets most of my attention.
He's very vocal and nobody can convince him that he's a DOG ... LOL
Anyway, glad to finally sign on.
Anyone around my area that wants to do some detecting just send me an email.
Good Hunting
Mike

Great picture and welcome aboard! What kind of dog? Gotta have some hound, sounds just like my hound, she's a talker. Funny let anyone in the house without barking, but she can talk up a storm, moan, groan, howl...if all else fails let out that howlin' bark!

Can't wait to see your finds, once the ground thaws. :)

Ike is a Fila Brasileiro. ... Also Known as a Fila and you are right, the breed is over 400 years old and is made up of English Mastiff, Bloodhound (hence the long ears) and Old English Bulldog out of pure necessity for the Portuguese colonists of Brazil's need for a strong, sturdy, and hard-working dog that would be, concurrently, a good cattle driver, a quality jaguar hunter, a skillful guard dog, and a loyal companion. They also used them to catch run away slaves ( unharmed ) way back then and are still used as Police dogs in Brazil today.
The breed is NOT for everybody though, they have a strong prey drive and a total dislike for strangers and can't be trusted around casual visitors to your home although extremely gentle and loving to their family members.
Ike is a true Brazilian farm Fila and a little different than most USA breed Filas where some breeders have incorporated the Neapolitan Mastiff into the bloodline for added size and a milder demeanor .... by doing so, it kind of tamed the beast in the breed and made them to docile for my liking and NOT a true Fila.
Ike has Greyhound like speed ( 35 mph ) and moves more like a cat than a canine when running full bore, rabbits, squirrels, etc. don't have a chance, he'll catch them ... and consumes every bit .... fur and all .... YUK huh .... LOL

Well I've bored you enough about Ike ... Thanks for the kind words and Welcome.
Good Hunting
Mike

Thanks for the Welcome to the forum Tim.
I live in Albertville on Sand Mountain just a little over an hour away from Cullman.
I'm sure you know where Lake Guntersville is, I live maybe 15 minutes from the lake.
My Wife's parents live in Hartselle, just north of you off of Hwy. 36
Maybe we can do some digging together soon ? When the weather and time permits anyway ;D

Good Hunting
