Last weekend me and the family headed to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to see the special display of the Ancient Stonehenge people and some of the artifacts of that time on display. After that we all toured the other parts of the museum and my favorite part the Gem and Mineral collection. This here is the biggest natural specimen of gold reported so far ever found in Colorado called Tom's Baby. A marvelous specimen it is.

In 1887, two lucky prospectors working in the Gold Flake Mine on Farncomb Hill near Breckenridge made a discovery beyond their wildest dreams?a 13.5-pound chunk of solid, glistening gold. After one of the miners, Tom Groves, reportedly swaddled it in a blanket to carry it safely back to town, the nugget quickly became known as ?Tom?s Baby.?

Everytime I drive through Brekenridge I think about detecting those mine dumps. I would be so happy with a little piece of quartz with wire gold in it!! Sounds like fun at the Museum!!

I always liked the Summitville Boulder to that they have down there in that museum 114 pounds with 316 ounces of gold in it man talk about given ya gold fever.

I use to visit the area quite a bit back in the day one area was pretty cool was going up tiger road were they ran the dredges.
