Old Tombstones Part II

These tombstones are in Amidon Conservation Area located in Madison County Missouri.
Rev. William McMurtrey born 4-25-1768 died 7-31-1839. Wife Sarah born 11-22-1773 died 8-17-1856. The McMurtrey's were the original ownere of thsi place. It was given to them by President Andrew Jackson. It reported that there are 40-50 graves between the two cementaries, some graves were marked only by a rock taken from Castor River.

It's sad that the old 'rock markers' were not inscribed, a lot of history is lost on that account.
