I said in another post that I would post pics of this queen size bed in a few days. Ended up having to put on six coats of polyurethane. One coat a day, so took longer than I thought it would.

I always have difficulty photographing this wood with a high gloss finish on it, also had a hard time with lighting in the cave I had to take the pics in. :D ::)

Anyhow here are the pics.

Wow...that is really a great piece of furniture. How long did it take to make that start to finish?

Hi Gypsy.

I have not made a bed in about three years, and I was kind of slow at remembering how to make one of these.

We have been having a hectic time here. I think I worked on it for about three weeks off and on while doing other things.

Many Thanks to ALL for your kind words,

Ron

Ron I'm in agreement of all the post from above. This creation is so awesome that I'm at a loss for an adjective that would describe it.Looks to me like your second book has some pictures being taken for it.Thanks for posting it Ron. Ive been looking forward to seeing it.

That is absolutely, undeniably, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful pieces of art I have ever seen.

I know its a bed - but if that isn't art, art doesn't exist.

I would so buy that bed! Where do you find burlwood? I've never seen it here and I'm in the woods more than most.
What a talent you have, thanks for sharing it with us!

That is fantastic. I do believe you could teach Norm Abrahms and his Million Dollar Workshop a thing or two!

Beautiful, Absolutely beautiful. You did a fantastic job and should be very proud of your self. I have never seen a bed like that before and it turned out great.

I understand the round mortises, but how did you do the rectangular ones?
It turned out magnificant.

Hi muleskinner,

If you are referring to the joints where the four cross pieces connect to the post, I use what I call a scribed mortise tenon shoulder joint. Very difficult to describe..... I make a round 2" tenon on the ends of the cross pieces.

I use rectangular tenons for the side rails to avoid a swivel action ;D

Here is a picture of the shoulder joint used to connect the side rails to the posts.

A 1/2" lagbolt through the post and into the end of the side rail pulls the shoulder snug up against the post preventing the head and foot boards from folding up on someone. ;D :D
