An iris for TT

I'm trying to get better results, and experimenting with this camera.

Shot at dusk, with the flash. Didn't come out quite so good.

I'm using a Nikon coolpix 4600 which has a buncha different modes, but no manual focus, remote shutter control, or flash sync so I can't use the remote flash units I have for my film camera... bummer!

Is anyone knowledgeable about cameras to advise what step up I could take on a tight budget?
Well, heck with the budget... I just want a better camera for posting pics, and if I can get in a couple good jobs, I'll just get one.

I've seen some info about Canon Rebel xti/xtg
