Wow, magazine quality photographs! Super shots!!
Even though I was familar with the Stealth, it seemed surprising to me hearing of some of them retiring, but airframe hours are airframe hours and years old does not determine life, but structural stress does.......

Yes as Jim said, I was a F106 crewchief, and F105 and T-33 but I started being an Instructor at Chanute, teaching aircraft maintenance on B-52's, some B-58 (only two squadrons were left then) and KC-135 aircraft and the BRAND NEW (at the time) C-141 aircraft. I remember a Boeing wooden fuselage mock-up of their version of the C-5 at Ft Lewis Wash and thinking, ye gads the plane is enormous.

Now, the B52 is still flying and I think 1952 sticks in my head as one of the first years of them. Of course that was an early version, and many, many changes since then, but the basic design must be late 40's................

Attaching a photo of my aircraft after a slight Trim Pad run fire, two years later it returned from depot almost good as new, the took the tail end of 57-2519 and used that on my aircraft. Uh, I was not the mechanic running the aircraft on the Trim Pad when this accident occured.....

I was in the 8th while at Holloman

I was at Bergstrom from August 81 - August 96 working F-4Es and F-16s over on the reserve side of the base.

I sure do miss Austin.

The 8th is still around Waltripcrew, they will be getting a squadron of F-22's, along with the 7th and 9th Fighter Squadrons

That is a POW-MIA flag Willie

Tom, I miss Austin also, loved the Riverside Dr. area and the UT drag. Was rasied out on lake Austin just north of the Pier. Makes you wonder how I ended up in East TN.

I just enjoyed reading everyone's comments and the memories it brought to me of all the different planes I've seen in my lifetime.

:thumbsup: Sad to see another era go in military aviation, guess it will be for me seeing the 117, F14s etc like my dad and his excitement of seeing and being in the B-17 again at air shows. Bring back memories of his youth. :)

I once got drunk with a couple of Russian sailors I met out partying in a port. After the bars closed we went to their ship to drink some more. It looked like a trawler with antennas everywhere. :wink: Anyway we (a buddy and me) were down in the ship getting a tour, while we were drinking with them. Within 15 minutes their Captain learned there were 2 US Navy sailors on board we were immediately found and escorted off the ship.
That morning as my squadron members and us mustered with our skipper, we were all read an immediate message that Russian ships were off limits to US military personnel. so they must of been an Intel ship and we must of been watched boarding it by someone.
I wonder what happen to those 2 Russian sailors that befriended us. Siberia ???

To answer the F-22 corrosion problems one just needs to read Jane's Monthy Magazine for up to dates on war type equipment

khe khe :) nice story ) about sailors I think that they are have not any problems, may be some dirty work for Latrine ;D Siberia it's very big myph :wink: can you make me PM with link for this magazine?
