Poor little fellera had a rough first attempt at flight, but we put him in a safe spot so Mom and Dad could still take care of him. We didn't dare put him back in the nest, he was close to take off, and we were'nt sure he could take another head dive out of the nest. So I was off to work and Gary was going to keep an eye on him. It's a baby Purple Finch, the only one that hatched this year. Hope he is OK.

Poor baby, but I guess that is the way of nature. I have not seen any evidence of young yet, have seen a few egg shells from hatched ones lying around but no younguns yet.
Last year I built a small platform under the eaves of my shed in hopes the Fly Catchers that nest under my neighbors porch roof would consider moving next door to my place.
Well, success, yesterday I was getting my lawnmower out of the shed, I saw a FlyCatcher fly by me and looked up and sure enough, a brand new nest is sitting on the platform.. Nothing like having good bug eaters in the backyard. :)
