Was in Trenton Ontario for a family gathering and took time to go to the Airbase and the museum on site. Was a great museum with all kinds of displays inside and a lots of planes outside. Inside they had 2 different Spitfire front head-on windshields that had taken a direct 20mm hit. These things were about 4" think of bullet proof glass. The entire windshields were both "starburst" badly but NOT penetrated. By the looks of it I imagine the pilot was showered with glass fragments but that's what goggles are for! Better than taking a 20mm shell to the kisser. Sorry no pic, doh!
They also had a completely restored Canadian Wellington bomber that got shot down dropping supplies to the Norweigian resistance. Crashlanded in a fjord and sank over 700' down. Due to pilot skill the plane was completely intact and all crew escaped alive to be picked up by the very thankful resistance they had just helped! All crew made it back to England to continue the war effort. Way to go boys! No pics as they were expanding the hanger around this bomber and we could only see it from a distance, doh!
Outside we saw F104 Starfighters, Spitfires, Hurricanes, and a F86 Sabre jet (amongst others). All these planes served the RCAF very well over the years. Here's the pics... oh and one last one of me and my hottie wife!
