Get the nest!!! Not now, but in the dead of the winter. Build a fire under or close by to smoke the hornets out. Those nests are selling for around $50 each. I have 2; one found by my husband 40+ years ago and another by my son about 14 yrs ago. I have them preserved & displayed.

 RR

The old timers around here say you can tell how much snow we will get by how far off the ground the nests are. That one doesn't look too high up, so an easy winter coming? Good luck if you take her down, great looking nest, just watch out for the tennants!

they also build in the ground if it's going to be extra mild.

I wish our Weather men & Women could be as accurate.

In the good old days folks used the paper from those nests for patching of there muzzle loaders.
That paper doesnt burn during the ignition of the black powder.
That made it good for wadding when needed.

Coold video Jeff, Wow there where pi$$ed.

I remember myself and my sister playing in the garden many years ago and I found a wasps nest in one of our trees, of course I had to hit it with a stick, man you shoulda seem them suckers come after us, we ran inside and they started attacking the house bombarding the windows and doors.

Best time to do it is in the evening on a really cool day.
Once the bag is tied off put it in a black plastic Garbage bag and leave it sit in the sun for several days.
That will kill all the eggs and larvae as well.
The concentrated heat kills them really fast.

when you kill these things don't squish them if you can help it,
Hornets have a chemical inside them that when hurt will get on the attacker.
It then is detected by all other wasps and hornets in the area as to the identity of the offender/attacker.
They will then focus their attack on that one person.

They can actually focus in on the properties of that chemical.
the results as we all know can be very disastrous.

Those ground hornets are the worst, cause you never know where the nest is. I had my share of attacks, they're horrible and hurt like h--l.

Evy,
If you know exactly where the holes are ... a little spray foam insulation is wonderful stuff.
