A glimpse of a harsh past

While walking through the bottom of a canyon yesterday,
I came across a sight that reminded me of just how harsh this country is here.
here is a cabin, or at least the remains of one .

all that is left is part of three logs linked together at one corner and this fireplace.
I can only guess when it was built, But it would probably be around the mid to late 1880s.

It is here as we found it, I'm sure that Bob will be back with a detector soon to see what the past has in store.

Good looking place to detect. I'd grab my detector and go with Bob.

Kim,
Just to smell the air is treasure.
But the Spanish trail that goes through the bottom of the canyon was what I was chasing.remember the special canyon you guys all wanted copies of.
This is in the bottom of that canyon.

Kim Here is the happy place from the other direction...
The mark on top is where the original picture was taken
The circle on the wall is of a large cave behind the trees.

I really don't think anyone thought it really was that deep.

Wow...that is just the kind of place gold coins might remain hidden somewhere...nice to explore old foundations, hope it is poison ivy free (no poison oak either).

Hi Red,
No, Haven't seen any of the poisonous plants other than a patch of hemlock on the other side of the canyon.
I will be a great place to MD I'm sure.

As I said in another post the worst thing we saw were the mosquitoes.
Someone is bound to start harnessing them soon, as an alternative transportation source.

Now that's one place I would love to see.
Thanks for the photos cause it's as close as I will ever get. I think.

That's good no poison ivy...mosquitoes, if they aren't thick I can stand a few of them. Usually mosquitoes don't come into the open much during the heat of the day. The place there just looks like treasure...hope you find some good stuff! :icon_sunny:
