Hi Welcome to TreasureNet, Turkey is a wonderful country, I have been twice in the last two years and coming again next year. Lots of history in Turkey, I'm surprised the tourist industry hasn't jumped on to organised detecting, they would make a fortune during the quieter winter months.

Welcome to TreasureNet !!
According to Herodotus,, the Lydians were the first people to use gold and silver coins. This statement of Herodotus is one of the pieces of evidence often cited in behalf of the argument that Lydians invented coinage. Lydia is part of the western section of Turkey; the main city at that time was Sardis. You are in a great place to find these ancient coins.
