I have a Silver-Sabre 2 based on the Cutlass circuit board.
The Discrimination pot has broken down, and is being replaced.
I have a problem with the Resistor across two of the solder tabs which got cooked whilst de-soldering.
Does anyone out there happen to know the ohmic value of this resistor, as the bands are unreadable.
Thanks in advance.

Hello ROVER532,

Welcome to the forum! If you have DMM (digital Multi-Meter) you still may be able to get the resistance value of the component or a ballpark value. If its to protect a device from excessive current (or voltage drop) this value may work. If it is for timing you need to know the exact value.
Your information listed above may indicated that the original pot value has been increased slightly for performance. This was done by the manufacturing (sometimes you need to increase or decrease the pot value) company or a user mod.

Best regards,

Morning Professor,
I have a very old AVO meter Which is not very accurate, but does as a general purpose tool.
In response to your answer, no, I don't have a Multi-meter, but my son has. It didn't occur to ask him.
Also, I have managed to borrow a powerful eye-glass, and from what I can make out, the band colours read - ORANGE or BROWN/BLACK/YELLOW
which translates into 30.000 ohms, using the orange band which seems the most likely.
Does this make any sense to you?

Kind regards

Hello ROVER532,

The resistor color code with what you have written would give the following values:

1. Orange/black/Yellow (300K ohms)
2. Brown/Black/Yellow (100K Ohms)

Try using a meter to measure the actual resistance, even a ball park reading will help you determine the value closest to your color observation. The resistor is either in series (add value to pot) or parallel (slightly different method of determining total pot resistance, but will be less than the largest value).

Best Regards,

Professor

Morning Professor,

Problem solved, apparently DDM reading is 100k. +/-

Thank-you for your assistance, maybe now I can get on.

With kind regards
