Hello everyone! My name is Ryan. I just purchased my first metal detector yesterday! I'm extremely excited about getting out there and seeing what there is to find! (After getting to know my machine in my front yard of course, lol). I do have one concern though. I live in Louisiana, and I know the laws vary from state to state. Piecing them all together, it nearly seems like metal detecting is illegal everywhere except my own land. ??? I figured that the best places to start would be National Forests and parks, creeks, ect. However, from what I can tell, it's illegal to metal detect in most National Forests.
Would anyone have any suggestions as to where to start hunting? Thanks!!

Check with your cities websites, most local parks are allowed unless a no metal detecting sign is posted. Practice good covering your holes and good etiquette....And WElcome to TNEt

Hi, welcome to TNet!

You should find friendly landowners that would let you have dig in their cow pasture or field, where you can
learn your machine and find some good stuff, too - like we do!
Yeah, just take things seriously in the APPEARANCE of each of your dig sites - like you weren't even there,
which is especially important when hunting someone's front lawn...! =|
Low-impact digging, and
- use the right tool for the job...! =]

Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
