Hi all! :)
I'm 26 from North Dakota and brand new to the forum and hobby! I've had an interest in metal detecting for the last couple years and decided this is the time to start! But before I started researching, my plan was to get an Ace 250 and just dig targets Lol, and that's probably what a lot of people's mindsets are if they start with no knowledge or info, but probably isn't the best when it comes to the MD ethics and especially digging plugs. So a big thanks to the Forum and all the info that has been provided. I've used these winter days to do a lot of researching and have learned a lot about multiple aspects of MD. It's crazy how many "side items" a person can get to help with his/her MD experience..Here is the gear/checklist I've gotten if you don't mind me sharing :) Garrett AT Gold, Nel Attack coil, Garrett Carrot, tool pouch belt, Lesche, Sampson 31" & 18" w/holster, whites coin probe w/aluminum ball point, flat screw driver, towel, tooth brush, gloves, kneepads, garrett AP carrying bag, Digi scale, Red Book, and a rock/coin tumbler. I think that is the perfect setup to start for my needs and I cannot wait to get out in the field and get REAL experience! I'm getting impatient! Ha. We've had record snowfalls this season and just had a couple more inches so there is still a decent amount of snow on the ground. But temps are supposed to start warming up tomorrow and stay warm so it won't be too much longer! I'm defiantly pumped and excited! :)
My #1 goal will always be to leave nice clean plugs and my #1.5 goal is defiantly to find some gold! :D

Thanks Fellas!

Welcome from Virginia! Sounds like you have some nice gear ready to go. Main thing being that you have chosen a good detector, pinpointer, digger and everything else as your budget allows. Sounds like you have done some good research too! Good luck and give the North Dakota Sub-forum that vpnavy noted a check as you may just find a hunting buddy in the area or a hunt going on soon.

Welcome to the forum!
Good attitude = A+ grade
and that is important in the field!
Do your research first, its better to know where the best
locations are to hunt. Get your permissions lined up,
so you can hit the ground running, when the snows melt!
Oh yeah, read, read, and re-read your owner's manual for your machine,
and practice - a LOT of practice, to learn your machine.
Do us proud - and post your finds here.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

True that! I've been checking out local old maps, articles, other historic references, and google earth and have quite a few places at the top of the list I want to get to. It's fun learning about local history, I've never even known much about it until now. My city was a big center of transportation and economic boom in the late 1800s because the northern railroad came through here and is located on the Missouri River. There were army posts stationed here to protect railroad workers and pioneers from Indian attacks. So that's kind of interesting.
