New to detecting

My youngest kept asking for a detector. So I finally got 3 of them. One for me and one for each of my sons. My youngest wanted to go to the beach and use them. We go and get a warning from a federal officer about it because I didn't know it was part of the federal game reserve. Lesson Learned.
My question is. Can anyone tell me if u can hunt beaches on Galveston Tx. If u can which would be good to take an 8 and 10 yr old to. Any info on this would be a big help. Thanks in advance.

Hope you have found your answers by now but just in case. I moved to Galveston recently but have been around it a long time. You can see people detecting the beaches all the time , day and night. Steer clear of county and state park areas and you will be fine.

Federal land is a definite no, but public beach areas are fine to detect in. You've found a great place for information and fellow treasure hunters -- welcome to our community!

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you got responses. Yes, Federal and State Parks are generally a no go. Public beaches unless otherwise posted are fair game. Check the places where people set down items to look for keys or make sure they have everything, that is where sometimes other things tend to get lost. Near entrances to the beach and stairs, up above the high tide mark etc. Good Luck!

One other note on the Galveston beaches. As you get away from the water you get into small dunes, grass and other vegetation. That is were the rattlesnakes like to go so stay away from those areas.
