Hello, I am New to metal detecting. I live in New London, CT. There is alot of History here from the Native Americans, the British invading New London, New london being the 3rd largest whaling city in the world.... to Pirates. I live very close to the water and many old Forts. My house was built in 1900. I have been digging up old maps going back to the 1700s and my property has been right smack in the middle of the excited for many, many years. My neighbor has found a few civil war buttons along with a 1724 half penny and 1888 silver coins in his yard. It got me thinking... my house is the oldest and largest house on my street.... what could be in my yard??🙂 so I borrowed a friend's White's Treasure Master metal detector... i read reviews and seems like that a great detector to try out in my back yard. So i did... and i got to tell you... it went crazy beeping all over... so there was lots of silver and a few gold hits... but when i zeroed in on them... and dug down i found nothing... yet it still beeped going over it.. the depth reader said 10"... I have to be down at least 15"... ?? I tried a few spots... I need some advice please. If that metal detector is right with all the beeps I was getting on the coins and jewelry setting... then I will dig deeper... I need some guidance here please. Thank you for adding me.🙂

Welcome to TreasureNet Randy. Maybe check the side of the hole. Target could be hiding there. Check your targets in one direction say North and South, then swing your coil East and West to zero in on the target. Best of luck!

WELCOME - I hit new London in the water - in fact I heading there for low tide today - you can find youtube vids on how to detect out there - lots of books on detecting too - a good old one that might be helpful is "successful coin shooting"
good luck

Your local clubs will be very happy to come over to show how to hunt your house. Virgin ground in a hot area is a commodity.
