Hey guys. Let me introduce myself. My name is Kerry and I just recently got back into the metal detecting hobby after many years. I'm 69 years old now but back in 1981 I bought my first serious detector. It was a White's 6000D and I hunted, with my brother, pretty hard for about 3 years. At that time we lived in NW Indiana (around Crown Point, Merrillville, etc..) and there were many old schools and parks to hunt. They were not hunted out at that time. We were mostly coin hunters and I recently counted the silver coins I found during that time (I kept them all). I have 360 silvers, including 9 half dollars, some Barbers, standing liberty's, etc.. After about 3 years I got burned out and my family was young so I went on to other things.

My 48 year old nephew got me interested in detecting once again, even though he still lives in NW Indiana and I moved to Guntersville, Alabama in 1996. He recommended the Minelab Equinox 800 so I bought one after I researched it and I'm not disappointed! I've been using it now for about 4 weeks and I love it. I have figured out that getting "permissions" is the best way, by far, to find older coins these days. All of those old sites I hunted are pretty dry now. One of my first permissions was in a small town about 40 minutes from me and I had beginners luck (this was a little over one week ago). The house was built in 1910 and I hunted it for two days. I ended up with 9 silver coins, including 2 Silver Half dollars that were about 30 feet apart! Needless to say, it's got me stoked to go out and find more now! Coins.jpg Coins2.jpg

Welcome from Nebraska! I’ll be in Indiana today and Alabama likely this week. Hoping to do some detecting down there. Maybe near orange beach. Detecting for 5 years now and only have found a couple old silver coins. My last machine didn’t have great skills...neither did I:)
