Hey y'all, where's the gold at? searching from NC

I like to spend time outside, whether its hiking, camping, biking or golf. I recently learned about North Carolina's history of gold mining which made me interested in trying my hand at panning on a camping trip. Thinking Uwharrie this spring. I am also lucky enough to have access to a beach house starting this year which peaks my interest in picking up a metal detector for beach hunting.

I enjoy doing research and planning for upcoming trips, my wife makes fun of me for my proclivity to make a spreadsheet before any purchase. I'm surprised it took me 30 years to find this hobby.
