Hello out there, my name is Doug, I am new to this site. I have had a metal detector for years but used it little. I even have an antique from around 1970 that I bought from D-Tex here in greater Dallas. It is the "Tiny Tex" and I actually found stuff with it!

Back in the mid to late 1980s I bought a Bounty Hunter that I still have, and moments ago I replaced the batteries, it appears to operate perfectly. What I want to know is, is that Big Bud at all relevant to the hobby anymore? When I bought it, it was rather expensive, I was living in Houston at the time and used it very little. Detected a playground at an old schoolyard in Sugarland, Texas, and find a few wheat pennies, but that was about it. The choicest old home foundations and such were to be found in the "hood" and I didn't really want to detect there. Maybe with a security detail? Ha.

Anyway, I ask the membership if the Big Bud is adequate these days, or are there vastly superior products available for not a lot of money. Thanks!

Doug

Hello Doug. Welcome from North Carolina. My advice is to buy the best detector you can afford. There have been many advances in technology so I believe the newer machines definitely bring more finds into reach. That being said, you will find more items with that old Bounty Hunter if you use it and learn to understand what it is saying. Good luck.
