ED:
YEAH!
ME!
If you're talking about a large cavern that has two (2) entrances to it
One at ground level, the other from way up on the top!
(The top of the cavern/canyon)
If you had mentioned this, when we were last in The Bradshaw Mnts
AND!
I would have related the story to you!
But!
Here is a "brief" description about it
It was Used, for sure by The Apaches and Maybe by The Spanish
There appears to be "chests", boxes, weapons, stacks of bars & etc inside
Put there by ? Spanish ? Apache ?
This was seen by a friend of John Ballinger, who found The Upper entrance
But!
Never got into the cavern
I know that's not much information
But!
I don't want to reveal too much here on "The Net" !
Does this sound like want you interested in?

ED:
"Doc" & I are thinking about checking this out, on the start of our trip next month (or! sometime)
I saw a photo, taken from the far side, showing the small cave/entrance
(taken by John's friend)
So!
I should beable to find it
We/I should have done so, when we were at "Negro Ed's" last March !
Got time to meet us ?

Re: Dog Canyon
Ed:
Last night I was looking at some of the photos I took when we in the canyon
Taken, Right, there at the No/So Branch Junction
I don't know how I missed this
But!
There is a series of large & long, deep vertical lines, "V" shaped,
On the right and left of an area that looks like,
It has been covered over, right at the base of a small cliff
Does this, Mean, anything to YOU!
On top of this, indented/covered area, a cave entrance?, is a protuding animal's face
It's looking right down at you!
It's pretty good size, too!
'bout 1 1/2 foot high, and several feet long

Re: Dog Canyon
No none of that rings a bell with me, that was the area the treasure was supposedto be the and it was where Mike said he found the dug up area in a small cave.

Re: Dog Canyon
It has been brought to my attention that the cave/hole found in Negro ed canyon treasure site does not mean that anything was actually found..
Also Negro ed could have moved some gold closer to his cabin down in the main canyon., just a thought.

Re: Dog Canyon
because one hole was dug does not mean that all the gold was recovered. i think my aunt used the term mule trains.

Re: Dog Canyon
I live in Alamogordo and my family and I have begun to enjoy the hobby of looking for hidden "treasure" around this area. Keeps the kids active, outdoors and exploring the world around them. Tried to get to Negro Ed today but couldn't find a road that went close enough to hike. Might try to base out of Oliver Lee and dirtbike over unless someone knows a path? Jeep Wrangler so bumpy roads aren't an issue. Might try to come down from the mountains next time. Also did some hiking around Dog Canyon and Twin Buttes.
