Hempstead Plains is a protected environment. Rare and endangered plants. I don't think Nassau County would like digging in that area. I have thought about it though!

Hi Stew. Joe here. The area used for troop encampments extended from present day hempstead to farmingdale as I remember. Even with the obsolete detector I was using I managed a few finds along the old meadow brook. It was popular as a picnic area years ago. How about the old paddleboat pond at hempstead lake? popular at the turn of the century

    Joe,

Even though I grew up in East meadow, I never tried those spots. Wish I detected when I was a kid. What kind of finds along the meadow brook?
