I was watching the history channel yesterday about nazi's in America in WW2. They mentioned 2 German American bund camps in the show. One in N.J. and one in N.Y. I researched a little on each and figured someone here might be in the area and may know where all this is and be interested in seeing if there is anything still around there to hunt for. Being they were both booming Nazi camps with thousands of people going in and out of them figured there would be something worth digging up.

Camp Siegfried was in Yaphank. Here is a link to the history of the place. http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/history/index.htm . Also here are some pics and postcards of the place and some of the main buildings.

Good luck anyone that goes looking for it. Hope you find something interesting and valuable.

Interesting postcard I found also.

Used to go to grade school in Yaphank :) But that was a long time ago, we lived in Middle Island, my mom taught in the Yaphank schools.
a little later we moved to West Sayville, and a block or two over was a Big high fence for some government radio installation, (you could see the towers I think I remember) but the story about it was that it originally was a German radio station during WW-I that would radio the information to U-boats about ships that sailed out of NY harbor. The edge of the fence line on the inside was plowed regularly, but there were a few gaps in the fence and when we felt particularly daring, we would 'slip through' but never for more than a minute, and usually on a dare.

I am curious if they mentioned where the camp was in NJ?, as I live in NJ now and know of a German 'nature' or 'exercise' camp that was located in my town, active back in the pre WW-II years. When I first moved here (20 years ago) the one main building was still standing, it had walls on one side that could be hinged up from the halfway point to make a large food serving area, from the kitchen that was on the other side. That building has since been torn down I believe since a new development went in there ten years ago. I detected it a little bit back 20 years ago, but really didn't find much of anything.
