The weird thing is, 99% of the time, they were detected on the path that leads to my detecting permission...lol....just a real narrow hard stoney sort of gravely narro path.
The one from the 1800s was from a farmland permission that had been ploughed as we were detecting.

Coins are wothless, i know, but Just the feeling of diging up a coin and holding it in my hand knowing that it's probably been in the ground since the 1800s facinates me.
Gets my mind wandering....who owned this coin? what did he or she do?
