How can you tell the difference between memorial pennies and silver dimes? In the video you say it could be a dime but after digging it turns out to be a memorial penny.

Coins on edge tend to give a higher TID. So you will get fooled. The answer to you question is, it will take time to learn the difference. I don't have enough hours in yet. BUT, if you study the video and notice the machines reaction to the silver dimes vs the copper pennies, you might pick up something.

Also older copper pennies ring up alot higher than zinc pennies.
