I'm not a happy camper, what to do?

Couple weeks ago our long time neighbors decided to move to Georgia to be closer to family. Great folks, we were always helping each other out. They watched our house if we were away, and we returned the favor.

First warning sign. Their house sold in 4 days, and for more then they were asking for it.
Second warning sign. They returned after the closing to apologize to us. They were none to happy with the buyers, and wanted to let us know.

Next day new neighbors show up, in force. Seems 3 families somehow managed to put together a purchase of the house.
Non American, from somewhere south of the border and speak no English.

All fairly quiet for a couple of days. Only odd thing is the 6 cars parked in the yard. Odd as not a single car is parked in the driveway.
Oh and no moving van nor did they seem to bring anything with them. The previous owners had either sold or taken with them everything including appliances.

And that's when it started to get crazy. Couple of nights ago, I'm coming home and can hear this "music" playing from a block away.
It keeps getting louder as I get closer to home. Make the last turn on the street and find there is barely one open lane of travel.
I counted 15 vehicles, in the yard, on the sidewalk, on the street, and parked up in several of the homes yards.
Spanish music is blasting from the new neighbors place, people singing, shouting, and screaming. I shake my head and walk in the house. Well the music is so loud it's like I had the windows open. Great... Figure if they don't quiet down by 10, I'm calling the cops.

Didn't have to. About 30 minutes after I get home, I hear the unmistakable sound of automatic gun fire next door, not once but twice, followed by several single shots of a different caliber. 10 minutes later the cops show up. Music ceases, and several party goers leave, some escorted via the police cars.

Quiet resumes again for two days.

This morning I go out in the back yard to do my daily dog doo doo patrol. Soon as I walk out the door I smell the scent of wet burnt wood. Something catches my eye and I look over at the 8 foot tall wooden fence that separates our yards. What I'm greeted with is a large burned out section of the fence, charred wood scattered in the yard, along with ashes and muddy foot prints.

The section of fence is being held up with some scrap pieces of wood nailed to try and hold it together, the area around the hole is scorched black. The wooden deck on the other side of the fence is just as bad, parts of the decking and structure are gone.

The debris from the fire show it got darn hot and burnt for a while as it looks like the remains of a long burning camp fire. And of course the stench of a fire put out by water.

At this point I don't know what to do. I know what I'd like to do, but prison time doesn't appeal to me. :BangHead:

Check your local noise and fire ordinances and report everything properly to the police. Doesn't matter where the people come from. It it's your fence it might be considered arson. I might go to the police station in person, and play dumb with the neighbors. Maybe they'll figure out etiquette. Maybe.

WHOA,,,,,

Definitely time to let the local PD know what's going on man.
And it wouldn't have to be "coming from you" as they have already been there.
Maybe get yourself a HUGE meat eating canine,,
OR maybe,,,JUST MAYBE,, you burn your ,,ahem "leaves" and it "accidentally" burns em out.
What a shame man,,, seriously.
Where I live,,, if that crap went on,,, it would be not good for them at all.

Only trouble is that it is likely he'd be vastly outgunned :(

Sure "sounds" like it from the opening post.
Maybe a polite and "calm" talk would work.
I would at least approach them and ask for a little "respect".
IF none is given then it is time for a "more aggressive" tactic.

They may have just "come off the boat", but clearly they have zero respect for anyone around them. Things have gotten pretty darned aggressive over the last few years since they've been "set free".

I'd be very careful, very wary, beef up security with cameras recording all around the house, heavy doors, and many prayers.

Shot in the dark? I'd tend to say it will only get worse. Law UP!!!

Police is the only help. Anonymously. (Hope I spelled that right.)

If their illegals the police probably won't be much help, they seem to get a different set of rules to go by than the American citizens. HH

You never know, but I'd say houses are going to start going up for sale. Who's there with ready cash, just like your neighbor = "Sorry Bud". And then eventually the entire neighborhood will go to the antagonists. It has happened for years, and will continue.

Deepseeker ADS is right about neighborhoods changing. When I was much younger, we'd walk downtown into the deep dark city and nothing ever happened.

Now you need a freaking Abrams tank to go into that city.

Another thought to ponder. Consider this:

There are an unusually high number of people making their way into the country, whether legally or illegally. However, they come from poor backgrounds. And we Americans, of course, are ssooo wealthy! Like young people starting out with $million+ homes, they want the good life and feel they "deserve" it. But how to afford the very high prices of living in a nice neighborhood? What about the other neighbors, not being if your race/background? What abut the racism that may develop?

Simple. Buy a single home for lots of money - quick sale before anyone can catch their breath.
Next, make it a party house - do EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to make the neighbors want to sell.
When all the For Sale signs start going up suddenly, home values are certain to plummet!!
Now they get a new(er) neighborhood at an awesome price per home, and they're probably already friends and families that know each other.

What an awesome deal!! ....For them!

Is difficult to know whether they are legal or illegal, and our very liberal laws seem to protect the lawbreakers more than the law-abiding citizens. And don't go blaming thecops if they cannot "fix" things - their hands are usually tied by "The Law"; what they can and cannot do. All they can do is enforce the law.

If this is a subdivision, read the charter rules and even state rules regarding such distractions.

MOST IMPORTANTLY - be safe!! Don't take chances. There is a good chance they will be polite and cordial....to your face. Then again, they may be more ruthless and there may be drugs involved. You never can tell. However, I would tend to think it's not drugs if they are attracting so much attention to themselves.

We (online) can't know what all goes on, and there's no possible way for you to relay in typing every single thing you experience, so you have to be your own best guide. Talk with other neighbors - the pre-existing ones. Pass on the ideas/thoughts of this thread. Band together if deemed necessary and speak with a lawyer or consider hiring a private detective/agency to investigate further.

...All of this is off-the-top-of-my-head. Have never been in any such situation.

BEST OF LUCK!! My prayers are with you, too!

If it was YOUR fence or Joint with old neighbors, call your homeowners insurance company. Have an adjuster come out and ask him what you should do.
They may want to have you file a police report. The insurance company could go after them for damages ( or YOU could)
I would take plenty of pictures and start a 'log book' describing everything that goes on with these neighbors. Sometimes it's hard to remember every detail later on.
Call the police as required. ( gun fire, loud noise, etc.)
Good Luck

Forgot to say, I second the post about using security cameras. Nobody can argue with that! ...Just make sure the cameras are "covering your house", but can also just sorta happen to see the neighboring house. Been there - done that!

Be safe first. On a bright note, maybe they'll have more parties and more police will come and more will go to jail....and not come back. And the house will go into foreclosure. Of course that takes awhile.

Okay,

I live in Los Angeles. Just like Mexico........only more Mexicans.

My advice:

Go over and meet your neighbors. As many South of the Border Folks as we have here, I can say that the greatest majority of them are very cool people. They work hard. They eat well. They drink a lot, and they party a lot. If you have them as neighbors, getting to know them as friends will generate a TON more respect from them for your personal comfort.

If you have the "other" type of South of the Border Families: a bunch of wanna be Scarfaces that deal dope, don't have jobs, and make nothing but nuisances of themselves, then I can feel for you. When I lived in Tampa as a kid, we had a Viet Namese Family move in down the street. They were fishermen. Problem was, they cleaned all their fish at home, threw the guts in the corner of their back yard, and dried the dead fish on their roof. Many attempts were made to be nice and explain that you don't do that in America. Didn't stop. So, the neighborhood got together and chased them out. Just saying.

Mike
