While metal detecting in an very old 18th century New England town, I discovered these two small copper based pins. Not sure of the original purposes. I have strong reasons to believe (due to the location found) they were given out during funeral as token of mourning. Any thoughts?

The shape reminds me of a pair of cufflinks, but I'm not sure of their size. What are their measurements?

Definitely not cufflinks, the pin soldered on the reverse side is sharp and meant to be inserted on a coat, etc.. These items are 1.5 inches long and found inside two different horse carriage stalls.

Bowser, there is two different photos, one is facing up in a normal view..the other photo reveals the details of the backside. What is the meaning of this "face down" statement? These have been identified as funeral pins, given out to ladies attending the funeral of a deceased.
