Re: this is kind of a nice petrified wood point found on 10-22-09
thanks you guys
and TnMountains, In my opinion, the tree is from giant redwoods like the ones that are a protected species in California also known as sequoia's
these were quite prolific in the northern plains a long time ago and judging from it's straight and uniform grain it could very well be as I have seen this stuff before
this material probably came from north of the knife river flint mines in north central north dakota and was carried along with krf and traded all over the U.S.
I have quite a bit of petrified wood pieces
I bet you never thought I would respond to your remark ("what kind of tree, I am just kidding") in this manner
just goes to show how much we can learn from each other on this nice forum, do you think?

Now that is cool. I've found a lot of petrified wood but have never seen an Indian artifact made from it
