    First hunt is a score!

hey all - I'm a new member here, and I live in Montgomery County Maryland. Had a couple hours to kill last Thursday so decided I would go out on my first official artifact hunt. Within 20 minutes I found this spear point! Been smiling all weekend. Needless to say, I'm hooked - kinda like walking into a casino and hittin the jackpot on the first pull. Any help with ID would be appreciated. maybe a Poplar Island or Adena? Approx 122mm long, 28mm wide, and 8mm thick. Base appears to be broken off.

Hello fellow marrylander. Not a poplar or adena. True adena would prob stop about mid Pa with the occasional exception. Poplar Island would be tapered shouldewrs and pointedbase which is gone anyway. Your looking at a Bare island or 1 of the numerous other stemmed points that fall into the peidmont series. Great find

yeah, not having the tip was a bit of a bummer, but didnt really diminish the rush. I'd often thought of how cool it would be to actually find an artifact, and have often looked while on a hike or walk. But till now, I'd never gone out with the sole purpose of looking. So to find something that quickly was a major bonus and makes me think the area might be a prime hunting spot. Thanks for the guidance bsit!
