Great dig Treefrog. I remember another post long ago when I asked if you if there were any overhangs up there and you said you were working on permission. Looks like you got it.
Congratulations its hard work but the items are much finer than creeks and fields. They are so protected. Thirty7 said it looks multi component he is right. Some of that looks to be almost Paleo. Might just get a really old one.
How deep were you? I love shelters and looked for some new ones today myself after showing some property. We had rain come across the vallley from your way today. Look forward to seeing what else you find. You have just scracthed the surface and where this is one shelter their is usually 5 or 6 more and that one looked un dug.
Congratulations sir.

Thanks for the action shot treefrog! Now I know the scratching at the surface I did with a trowel may have not been enough effort. Looks like your work paid off, nice finds!

ya tn mountains, i think it was undug, we found stuff in both holes we started, the middle of the place has a stream coming through it from inside the hill, so the middle is all rock, the sides are only about 3 maybe 3.5 ft deep with dirt and rocks. we was down about 2 ft or so. we think in a few more trips, we can totally go through every inch of dirt in the place. it belongs to a friend of mine so we are gonna put the dirt back when we finish. so far ive not found any other shelters around close but will continue to look.
the 8th pics down in original post is what we thought might be paleo, is that the one u thought as well? we thought it may well be a small beaver lake
what do u think?

I am so glad you found this place. Yes thats the point I was looking at. The base dates it I think. Sometimes those streams going down the hill will have artifacts in the old stream beds even if its dry today. I have found many there as well. That shelter has it all. Check the drip line from the water off the bluffs if there is any and you may find some that is not as deep. Also any large rocks outside the shelter or the very front outside where they may have sat and gathered and worked the flint. May be a little deeper. I am no expert but have dug a couple in my day.
You have inspired me and hopefully come Feb after deer season I will dig a couple around here. Good you are digging with a friend. Be careful and please keep sharing your dig with us. Very nice quality.
Thanks Treefrog and good luck.

Beaver lake probably. It has a base like some Daltons and almost has the ears as well. Fat like a unfluted clovis. I see a snapped base also which is common and a real nice point imho in this area. It was made that way or they would not chunk them in with grave goods. Any nutting stones?

no nutting stones yet. the mouth of the shelter falls straight down about 6 feet down like a water fall, u have to enter it from the left or right side only.
later on im gonna follow the water path into the hill further and see if maybe something laying around.

Need to find out if the last pic you posted is a Russell cave. I need to look one up but some are uni faced or flat like that and you are in the right neighborhood. Holy crud I think it is. That is a very sought after point in this area
Maybe some experts will chime in. Good luck tomorrow.

Wow, WTG Treefrog, those are beautiful pieces! Looks like all of your hard work really paid off and I agree with NatureGirl - I need to quit scratching at the surface and get out the big tools.

Treefrog......That looks like some manual labor with a capitol L, but the results say it all. It was well worth it!!
Great stuff you dug, dig? :laughing9:
What is the material? I have some that is very similar looking, same kind of shearing/fracturing.
