Cannel coal pendant

I found this on a Ft. Ancient site about three years ago. I'm guessing that it was some sort of pendant or effigy? Hopefully Dorkfish or someone can help shed some light on this. It looks like a turtle's head almost. There are a couple of dings on the bottom. I'm surprised that it survived period. The owners used tillers pulled behind the tractor which chewed up the dirt (and artifacts) pretty good.

It looks like a preform for one of the ones in this picture. I'd say they drilled it first and were then going to polish it into the shape of one of the long ones like the one in the middle of the top row that are Tooth Effigy Pendants.

It looks like a turtle head to me. Love that cannel coal. I can't ever seem to find the unbroken ones (or the drilled ends).

An archaeologist told me that most coal is made out of plant material, but cannel coal is denser and cleaner because it's made from pollen.
Made sense to me.
