    some chert knives

these are some gray chert (tongue river silicified sediment) blades
I have alot but these are some of the better ones
I should have 2 or 3 frames of these chert blades to post this winter once I get things in order
I would say that the points and scrapers and knives I find are about 1/3 KRF, 1/3 chert, and 1/3 agate and jasper
some of this chert looks like fairly decent material to work with
this kind of chert comes from the east side of the Missouri river
the KRF comes from the west side
these are by the towns of Stanton, ND(west side) and Washburn, ND (on the east)
The famous knife river flint mines are located northwest of Stanton, ND

Those are very well made Blades, so there must have been a reason behind using that type of chert for those types. They could have just as easily used KR Flint or some of the agate and made some beautiful pieces.

Very nice larson. Thanks for the pictures.

    Some mighty fine blades there!

There is a lot of TRSS east of the Missouri River, but most of it is west of the River.

This map shows the primary source areas (but not all the areas).

Boulders like this are fairly common in southwest ND.
