I just recently acquired some really old issues of some artifact magazines. I got some Ohio Indian Relic Society magazines, which is the precursor to the Archaeological Society Of Ohio magazine. I also have a bunch of the ASO magazines starting with Volume #1 in 1951 and going through 1973, though I don't have every issue, I do have almost every issue from 1951 to 1963, only missing one issue from 1959. The man that gave these to me, and yes I did say GAVE them to me, said he found them in the basement of an old house he bought and he knew I collected artifacts and would be interested in them. I tried to pay him for them but he wouldn't take any money and told me that if he hadn't given them to me he probably would have just thrown them out, so I consider myself very lucky. He also had a few issues of The Redskin and of Artifacts magazine. I doubt I will sell them since they are really cool to look through and see some of the old time collectors when they were very young, but I checked a few out on line and they were going for as much as $30 each for some from the 50's. There are articles in these from Veitzen, Mueser, Watchel, Hart, and numerous other well know collectors. What's really cool is seeing them complain about having to pay $10 for perfect Thebes and Doves. lol

Here is a list of what I have so far. The man I got them from said he thought there were a few more down there and he would get them to me real soon.

I bet its interesting to see how the thought process has evolved from some of those articles. Be fun to find a few where the thinking has changed and post them. That is a treasure for sure. How fun during the down season.
Take care

srv... i'm jealous.. imagine what the single issue price was for the magazines back then... is it printed on any of them?

That's another thing that's really cool about these issues. If there was any kind of insert in them they are still in the magazine. That includes cards to renew your subscriptions, which was $3.00 a year for 4 magazines, or $.75 an issue. One of the issues I was looking at last night had a insert of a map of Ohio for a Fluted Point survey. They asked for each member to mark on the map where there Paleo points were found and then to trace them on the back of the map and draw in the flutes. This was the first Fluted Point survey ever done in Ohio according to the issue. How cool is that?

Hello SRV, Did you go through your old magazines. There is a article in the 1960 series Volume 1 book that is concerning the Hayport Site. And in the 1970 issue Volume 1 there is a article concernig the Goldcamp site.

Joe.

I haven't made it that far yet. I started with the 1947 issue and have read through them up to the 1955 issues. Lots of interesting articles and pictures in these old mags. I have quite a few articles about the Feurt Site, the Schisler Site, Goldcamp, and a few other local spots.
