These were found by my grandpa...One has abrading grooves on all four sides--it had been used a lot! Grooves are really deep.
The other two have a single, shallow groove on one side only.
All made of sandstone.

Those are some nice abraiders that little four groove on is great, you can see it sure has been used a lot. The one with the narrow groove look's like they might have been using it to sharpen bone needles or awls.

I love the four groove stone--The stone looks kinda reddish in color and is very 'gritty'.
The speckled stone was hard to get a picture of to show the actual groove--it also has some kind of other notches on the opposite side.

Thank you sandcreek4, those are great, I really like seeing tools they used,
its neat how they came up with the tools for certain task. I would bet that
they were took care of and kept where they were handy to get to and who
knows maybe a watchful eye upon them so they wouldn't walk off. :dontknow:
thanks again... wes

Hey JYD,
Took me a while to get time to snap some photos.
I have a pretty nice shaft straightener found in our mound. Couple of other interesting rocks in there too. I love cool tools. Nice post Y'all.

I have had these two stones since the late 50s, never really have had positive IDs, suggestions have been sinew stones, straighteners, and "what the heck".

I must have 30 mano's and everytime i pick one up I hope its a shaft straighter on the back side. No luck yet. It is my goal to find one to add to my old archery collection.

Nice looking stone tools.

Thanks All. great pieces. I enjoy seeing all tools even scrapers, still dont really know
what some of the things I pick up are or how they were used, I imagine that they used
all kinds of items to do what ever is needed. They probably fashioned tools on the spot
for certain tasks. Hey thanks again for the reply's and i'm looking foward to seeing
larson1951 pieces and anyone elses rocks and more.

Here's the few I have. The first 6 pictures are from North Dakota and were a gift. The 7th one is a personal find from a Ft Ancient site. It has a groove on the back side as well.

Re: PLEASE... show me yours (abraider's, straightners) arrow shaft & bone

I posted this about two years ago for an ID. I was told it probably was an abraider but it was not confirmed. It seemed to have more than one purpose. The tool fits nicely in the palm as shown and appears to be a grinder/hammer type stone with an abraider groove too. It shows apparent burn marks from a fire also if I have read that topic correctly that these tools can still bear smut or burn marks if they were near or in a camp fire, etc.

Anyway, here it is and I would appreciate any help on the ID. I will post it again in its own topic to see what people think now two years later.
