Love those endscrapers ! You find a lot of them out there, huh ? I once saw a frame of about 50 beautiful endscrapers from S.D. , the finder gave them to my buddy because he found that many. HH.

Yes, we do find lots of scrapers, all shapes, sizes and materials.

Flintdigger, the flat one is a broken paint stick (the broken part would likely have looked similar), the other is bone bead.

Yes Flintdigger, I do know of some books that deal mainly with the Mandan and upper Missouri River cultures. This is all stuff from archaeology work done in the late 1890’s and early 1900’s. I don’t know of anything more recent available.

I think the two best are available in ebook format free from Google eBook. These are scanned ebooks so it takes a little time to learn how best to view them. I think you can find hardcopies of them also. There are many good drawings and detailed descriptions of things they found. There are also some photos. If the links don't work let me know and I'll email the info to you.

Title Mandan
Volume 8 of Memoirs of explorations in the basin of the Mississippi

Authors Jacob Vradenberg Brower, Ernst Reinhold Steinbrueck, George Catlin

And the other is:

The Mandans: a study of their culture, archaeology and language, Volume 3 (Google eBook)
George Francis Will, Herbert Joseph Spinden

I don’t know of anything done recently that focus’ on Mandans.
