Found a clay pipe

Hello -
So I was metal detecting an old yard that had been tilled up for grass seed.
The property is located between Fenton and Holly and I was told was the 4th oldest homestead in the area built in 1837.
This area was inhabited by Indians prior to White man settlement.
While metal detecting I eyeballed this pipe and managed a phone shot before picking it up. 3 ft away was a piece of worked stone.
Needless to say, I was super excited that this baby was still intact and had managed to avoid damage from the earth or rotor tiller.

that is a nice find although it is not native american.It is what is known as a kaolin clay pipe.somtimes referred to as a trade pipe.the style of yours appears to fit the time of the house.they were very popular during the nineteenth and early twentyith century.here is a good site with alot of info for you. www.dawnmist.demon.co.uk/gallery

Ga.rebel... You just happen to have the most amazing clay anything I've seen in a long time! How does it look now that it has had time to dry? Has it lightened up?

I plan to post new pictures of the pipe that I found soon on the original post here on TN, showing more detail at every angle. Including the damaged area. That pipe has drawn more attention than what I ever thought it would. I've heard from people that I haven't heard from in years after it appeared here. Some of the pictures have already been posted on the "Best of the best" web site by a friend of mine so you may have already seen them if you look at that site too.

Tavern pipe. Taverns had these on hand so patrons could smoke purchased tobacco through them.had long stems and when broken sanded and reused.

Nice colonial pipe you have there. ! GaRebel has the best one I have ever seen. These are from that colonial era and what they were trading with the Indians. Found these in Tennessee.
